Re- wattlebirds making noise in the morning - tell your friend to get up earlier! Seriously though, this reminded me of a trip recently to Tidal River, Wilson's Prom. The silver gulls there decided last year to establish a new breeding colony right in the middle of the lovely new EXPENSIVE cabins by the river. They have returned this year, and the people renting the cabins are not impressed, as they are very noisy. The park staff are trying to discourage the birds, by placing lines with flagging on the roof, and even coming around in the morning and drenching the cabins and birds with water using the fire-fighting trucks. They're not having much luck though. Lainie Berry Department of Biological Science, Monash University |
