Recently there was some discussion about
Apostlebirds in South Aust. On Oct 3 & 4th I recorded 3 flocks in the
Peterborough district.
The first flock of 6 was seen at Dawson Gorge, about 25 km NE
of Peterborough.
On the following day I saw 2 flocks in the township itself.
These flocks consisted of 8 in the Peterborough Caravan Park and another 6 in
the grounds of the Hospital. These sites are only some 400 meters apart so they
could all be from the same group. I was not able to stay long enough to observe
if there was any interaction between the 2 groups.
My mother-in-law lived opposite the Peterborough Primary
School for many years and said that they regularly visited her garden, about
this time every year she thinks. This site is about 2 km north of the Caravan
park.
