The 1998 Gould league Bird Camp was held at Warrumbungle Holiday camp,
Timor Rock, between Coonabarabran and Warrumbungle National Park from
30/9/98 to 8/10/98. 47 campers were present, organiser was Ann Lindsey,
Cooks were Claire Lindsey and Natalie Eyson, while the housekeeper was
John Seale. The seasonal conditions in that part of NSW were great, the
locals say the best since 1951, and everything was green and lush, wheat
crops were exceptional and there was a good grass cover. This was the
57th camp, the first being held in 1937 and they have been held every
years ince apart from a gap of 4 years during the second World War.177
species of birds were seen, including nesting painted Honeyeaters,
brolga, Square-tailed Kites, Spotted Harriers, Black-chinned
Honeyeaters, Red-chested & Little Button-quail, Turquoise parrots at 5
sites, Ground Cuckoo-shrikes, Red-backed kingfishers, Chestnut-rumped
heathwrens and Black-eared Cuckoos. A full list is attached, note that I
have inadvertently omitted the Painted Button-quail which was sen at 5
locations too!
