Thanks to several Birding-Aus folk who sent me information on birding in the
Griffith area. In the end relatively little birding took place! On Friday
night the Griffith area received about 70mm (nearly 3 inches) of rain, and
from what I saw, there had apparently been quite a bit of rain before that
too. That made a few roads impassable to conventional cars. Plus, I had a
couple of hung-over non-birders in the back of the car ......

Anyhow, I birded some roadside Acacia scrub at two locations:

1) About 20km NE of Griffith, near Cocoparra NP. Willow Wattle (Acacia
salicina - probably), with some Cassia understorey. A few good birds -
Pallid Cuckoo, White-breasted Woodswallow, Striped Honeyeater, Blue Bonnet,
Mulga Parrot. There were heaps of frogs calling - Sudell's Frog
(Neobatrachus sudelli), Common Froglet (Crinia signifera), Plains Froglet
(C. parinsignifera), Spotted Marsh Frog (Limnodynastes tasmaniensis -
northern call race).

2). Part way between Darlington Point and Jerilderie. Boree (Acacia
pendula), with grassy understorey, native herbs & daisies. Some good birds
- Grey-crowned Babbler, Cockatiel, Striped Honeyeater, Apostlebird
(nesting), Black Kite. More frogs ........

Full accounts will be sent off to the Atlas.
