Sounds as if it couldn't be anything else but Grey Fantail. When I first
learnt that bird, c. 1952, its 'real' name was Cranky Fan - How many
people ever call it that these days? I think it's a shame to lose these
nicknames - 1. they are often still used by the general public 2. they
are folklore, necessary to understand older and non-professional writers
3. they have their own poetry.
