Dear Ausbirders Camping in Innes NP at the tip of Yorke Penninsula last weekend I was delighted to be woken by the din of Purple-gaped Honeyeaters exploiting the flowering Eucalyptus diversifolia. Talking of obscure vernacular names this latter is known as Soap Mallee????! Anyway for an easterner it was very exciting to see this species of Honeyeater as the commonest bird in the neighbourhood. cheers Milburn P.S. No vinyards in sight!
