RE: Land Clearing and Cumberland Plain woodland

Andrew Patrick brings to our notice the impending (?) clearing of a piece
of woodland on the Cumberland Plain west of Sydney.  Cumberland Plain (CP)
woodland is listed as a threatened community by NSW National Parks and
Wildlife.  This should provide some sort of protection.  Perhaps this needs
to be clarified with the Service.

It was, however, bought to my attention last week that not all woodland on
the Cumberland Plain is classified as CP woodland.  Mugga Ironbark, for
example is not a component of CP woodland.  CP woodland is classified as
growing on shale whereas Mugga Ironbark grows on alluvium !!!  There are
moves to have Mugga Ironbark also formally protected on the Cumberland
Plain.  Perhaps enquiries about the status of the land that Andrew mentions
should also include mention of this anomaly and the importance of the
remaining woodlands, besides CP woodland, on the Cumberland Plain.
