owls, and for those who enjoy watching them -
The Australasian Raptor Association has a new Editor of its renamed bulletin
BOOBOOK (the former ARA News) - Lyle Smith.
The ARA's main area of interest is the broad Australasian region, including
New Zealand, the SW Pacific islands, New Guinea and Wallacea. As many of
you will know, there have been considerable delays over the last couple of
years with the issue of ARA publications, and Lyle is keen to get the flow
moving again. BOOBOOK should be issued twice a year, alternating with the
twice-yearly newsletter CIRCUS. However, material is needed.
When you see raptors, you may actually be seeing them doing things that have
never actually been recorded for the species. You may see or hear them in
unusual places, nesting, hunting and catching prey, or interacting with
other raptors of the same or different species in ways that nobody has noted
before. Moreover, if you are on holiday outside Australia in, say,
Indonesia, PNG or the islands of the SW Pacific, the chances are very high
that you observations will be new. You cannot take it for granted that what
you see is well known.
What you can do is write a short note about your observation and send it to
Lyle for possible publication in BOOBOOK. Lyle is currently doing some
voluntary work for the BOP Watch project, and you can send material to him
at the BA postal address below. He is also intending to get an email

reviews, reports or anything else of interest to raptorphiles.
