I will be spending 4 weeks birding in Australia in March/April of 1999. During my birding in the United States my companion and I have used GPS and the computer program Street Atlas USA to assist with navigation. Is anyone familiar with the use of GPS in Australia and if there is a similar type of computer program for Australia? Also, I'd be interested in some responses as to which identification field guide I should purchase as this will be my first trip and the number of new birds is rather overwhelming.
