Greetings,
My wife and I are planning a quick (1 week) trip to Malaysia in August and
I was wondering what the current status on field guides was. I have read
many of the trip reports published on the web (many by birding-ausers) and
noted that there were some new guides appearing in 1997-1998. We will be
spending most of the time at Taman Negara National Park and Pankgor Laut.
I don't know if I want to buy every book listed below so your
recommendations would be most appreciated. Of course any tips concerning
travel in Malaysia would not go astray. No doubt a return trip will be
required for the MANY sites I will miss.
A Guide to the Birds of Thailand - Boonsong Lekagul and Philip D. Round
A Field Guide to the Birds of South-East Asia - Ben King, Martin Woodcock
and E.C. Dickinson
A Photographic Guide to the Birds of Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore -
Morten Strange and Allen Jeyarajasingam
The Birds of Borneo, Sumatra, Java and Bali by John MacKinnon
A Birdwatcher's Guide to Malaysia by John Bransbury
Mammals:
Mammals of Malaysia, M.W.F.Tweedie, Longman Malaysia, 1978
Mammals of South East Asia by Earl of Cranbrook
Thank you very much
Sorry for the off topic message
