Knots

I live near a REALLY tiny ptach of 'forest'. It has a creek running
alongside part of it. Yesterday I was on the opposite side of the creek
from the part of the mini-forest that has some kind of pine tree,
possibly she-oaks, when I saw a bird walking along the ground. My first
impression was that it was a Kiwi, but...
It had a longish beak with a faint curve and was pecking the ground
every few steps. It had a round head settled back into its fat body.
Its legs were about 15-20cm long (that's an estimate!). It was too far
away to see its feet. My father who was behind me, said that it flapped
up into the trees. What the heck could it have been? I think it could
have been a Great Knot.
Does anyone know the URL of the RAOU website?
