"The possible sighting of a Paradise Parrot, a bird believed to be
extinct since 1930s, was being investigated yestesterday. (Friday
26th June 1998)
A caller to a radio program reported seeing a "richly coloured parrot"
fly from a termite nest in the Goondiwindi region, near the Queensland
- NSW Border.
The Paradise Parrot had "rouge-red shoulders", according to Rick
Nattrass, a ranger with the NPWS and wildlife talk back radio show
host on ABC radio.
The caller had given an accurate description of the Paradise Parrot,
Mr Nattrass said.
The environmentalist was eager to drive to the Goondiwindi area today
but has been unable to contact the caller.
The last Paradise Parrot was seen in the wild in the Goondiwindi
region in 1926"
Speaking to those in the know - such records are quite common -
regrettably they all amount to nothing. Whats the bet that the same
will happen with this record! We all live in hope!
Glen do you know anything?
