Hello All
some years Channel-billed Cuckoos over winter in the Daintree
Valley and other places. Lindsay Fisher saw one recently at Cairns Airport
and there has been one near the Daintree Village. David Robertson saw some
at Lawn Hill this winter, which is not unusual there, on his way back to
Adelaide.
Today, 24 Jun, no less than six, landed on a dead tree at 9.00am
much to the astonishment of myself and those on board the boat. In previous
years when they have been here over wintering they can be seen in open trees
on chilly mornings near the jetty and I suspect this will happen again this
year.
A Brush Cuckoo has been sighted in Windy Reach this winter and one
calls irregularly near my new home in Wonga Beach, three houses from the
Osprey's nest and a little further from the Brahminy Kite's nest. I am
looking forward to Ian Claytons observations at Lotus Bird Lodge, much
further north of Daintree, when he can get near a computer.
have a happy winter
cheers
Chris
