The potential of Common Starlings (Sturnus vulgaris) to become a problem
reminds me of the last time I was in the northern Tasmanian town of
Devonport prior to a stint volunteering for Orange-bellied Parrot
monitoring in the far south west of the State.
The local authorities had little success with removing the birds which were
using the town mall for roosting at night. I remember the flocks would
congregate aroung the mall lights and in doing so would leave a mess on
footpaths, trees and other objects below the roost spots. It was
interesting to read accounts from people in the local paper both for and
against removing the birds. Does anyone from Tassie have more details?
