Hi Ron, I think you are quite right in assuming that for some obscure reason the common starling prefers to roost in overhead traffic lights. Untill recent years no starlings had been seen in the Mackay district. However recently flocks of up to 20 birds have been sighted, and amongst them are juveniles. They are regularly seen roosting in the overhead traffic lights at the "city gates". Unfortunately no one seems willing or able to come up with a plan to eradicate these introduced pests. It seems very difficult to convince authorities that these birds will eventually become a huge problem, and that while the numbers are small,is the time to act. Any advise would be welcome.
