Hi all The recent discussion on spotlighting mentions various wattages - a check with local wildlife authorities would probably find that 30watt is the maximum permissable. (Queensland Forestry certainly stipulate this on their permits). I use one of these - Powerbeam brand - and its more than adequete. Some people use two lights, one a wide beam which is excellent for picking out the animal and a spotlight to highlight it - again think of the animals welfare and don't blind it by keeping the light on for too long. I have also read somewhere that using a red light doesn't make any difference. Gun shops and sporting goods stores tried selling me megawatt lamps with 2km beams! I actually found someone using one of these! just about blew the poor animal out of the tree). I have found that specialist battery stores are more helpful. Regards Keith Fisher |
