Hi folks,
Just thought I'd let you know about an interesting birding spot I
found at an old water reservoir at the corner of Ferntree Gully and
Gardiner rd, Notting Hill, Vic (now part of the Hardwarehouse
carpark). The reservoir is concreted and almost empty now except for
a shallow body of water and has reeds around the outside.
Over the last couple of times I've visited I've noted the following inhabitants:
6 Chestnut Teals
2 Grey Teals
2 Black-fronted Dotterels
2 Masked Lapwings
Plus a large flock of Silver Gulls, the occasional Magpie-lark and
some Common Mynas.
Not the most interesting list I know, but it's a nice place to visit
in an otherwise very boring suburb ornithologically!
Has anyone else seen any other species in this lake? I'd be very
interested to hear if you have. If anyone is thinking of visiting, I can
provide directions, but it's pretty easy to find.
Cheer,
