News from Ian Clayton, Violet Vale Station.

15 masked boobies, seen on 31/5 at Lotusbird Lodge Lagoon. They were
driven inshore by bad weather, stayed for around 10 minutes then took off
again. [Seen by the lodge owners, not Ian]

Other species Ian has seen regularly over the past 2 weeks (not in
taxonomic order):

black bittern
pied heron
bustard
brown goshawk
papuan frogmouth
barking owl
southern boobook
red browed pardalote
white throated gerygone
large billed gerygone
rufous banded honeyeater
bar breasted honeyeater
streaked honeyeater
masked finch
black throated finch
black backed butcherbird

Violet Vale/ Lotus Bird Lodge is 16km south of the road leading into
Lakefield NP.

What does a birder do on his day off? Ian and Pauline are going to Artemis
Station next week to look for golden shouldered parrots. Half his luck!
