Finally after trying the Castlereagh NR area last Saturday (May 16) and Taronga Zoo on Sunday with no luck in either spot we succeeded in getting good views of a Swift Parrot feeding in the ironbarks on Northern Rd near the Castlereagh NR. Unlike the numerous honeyeaters in the same trees the parrots were extremely quiet and moved mostly by walking rather than flitting about. We observed the trees for about 1 hr before really getting views of the parrots. Not the prettiest bird in all of OZ but a good "tick" nevertheless! Bob and Marg Handfield |
