Are red-necked avocets actually resident in Brisbane? I saw 5-6 again today on Fisherman Island feeding with black-winged stilts, and have been told by a friend that he has seen them there in several visits to the same location over the course of the past year. Going strictly by Pizzey and Knight's field guide, their range is not shown to reach the Queensland coast, but they are "regular but uncommon visitors" to the eastern coast. Do other sources actually include Brisbane in their normal range? --Mich By the way, the avocets can be regularly found on the northeastern side of the fence, directly across the street from the Moreton Bay Container Park, where they are usually feeding or resting among several of the more abundant stilts.
