In today's regional edition of "The Advertiser" (Adelaide) there is an
article about 2 sightings of male Flame Robins on KI in the last fortnight.

It was reported that these sightings were the first for the island of this
species for about 30 years. Local ornithologist Terry Dennis (Ph 08 8553
2498) believed that the last sightings were in the late 1960s.

"The first sighting was by an observant bushwalker near Kingscote, while
the other was by a family in their backyard 30km SW of Kingscote."

Some sightings were made in the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula
during the Atlas of Australian Birds and further sighting were made in the
Adelaide Hills during the Second Bird Atlas of the Adelaide Region
(1984-85)

A quick search through the bird notes in the newsletter of the South
Australian Ornithological Association reveals only 5 sightings in the
Adelaide Hills in the years 1985 onwards, and all those were in the years
1986-88.

The sightings on KI therefore are quite unusual and significant.

Do any other birders have any further information on this species, either
on KI or in the Adelaide Hills?

Good birding,
