i plan to go to new zealand and parts of australia during the end of
july and early august. i would like to spend at least one day
birding in new zealand, but since i am from the states, i wont have a
car (that, and i cant afford to rent one anyway).
does anyone know any contacts that could lead me on a birding
trip...perhaps for a small fee, or for free just to have fun? i dont
have firm dates yet (i should have them soon). i am not interested
in trying to get as many species as i can. i like to watch birds,
but dont necessarily desire to try to get as many in as i can and not
enjoy the trip. i would like to see a kiwi if possible. but since
this will be the first time out of the united states (aside from
short canada trips and a month long mexico job), so nearly every bird
i will see will be new.
in australia, i will be in cairns. i hope to spend a while there...i
want to go snorkeling. i am taking a job at the lotus bird lodge, so
i will already have seen many of australia's local birds in the
area...but it would still be nice to wander around and see what i can
see, bird wise.
thanks for any help. and if i can only have one or two field guides,
which are recommended (packing space is limited...so i will have one
US guide, one for Hawaii, one for Australia (i hope), and one for new
zealand (do they have one for there?)
