Asking for birding contacts in NZ

To Birding Aus,

I am a year 11 student who is going to New Zealand on an exchange between
early May and late August this year and I was wondering if anyone could
give me some names, postal & email addresses etc of people involved in
birding or any other fauna projects during this time.  I will be staying in
Foxton, a small town three hours north of Wellington on the North Island. 
The closer to here, the better, but I am interested in any other projects
running. I have had experience in cannon netting and mist netting, so would
be able to assist in the projects.
