Hi all. Someone suggested a GPS unit "only" cost about the same as a pair of binoculars and inferred that all atlassing birders could/should have one. If this is the case please count me out of atlassing! An adequate pair of binocs can be had for about $70 (Tasco), and $300 would be unaffordable to many birders, including me.
