In the Macquarie Marshes (between the towns of Warren and Carinda
and Nyngan and Coonamble, central-north of NSW) where I work,
Nankeen Night Herons are found roosting in River Redgums (which is not
suprising given that these are the main tree in the wetland areas, and
exotic trees are virtually absent), but they also utilise the River Cooba's
(Acacia stenophylla) that grow in association with the River Redgums.

A 1992 report by CSIRO found the night herons only nesting in River
Redgums, although they are known to also to nest on the top of shrubs
and lignum.
