CBOC OUTING TO MEGALONG VALLEY, BLUE
 MOUNTAINS, NSW - 29TH MARCH 1998

Yesterday, I lead a group of 25-30 members and 2 non-members of the
Cumberland Bird Observers Club to the Megalong Valley area. A fine day
was had by all with plenty of bird activity about and a good list of
about 70 species seen or heard. Good sightings of Gang-gang Cockatoos,
Golden Bronze-cuckoo, several Scarlet and Rose Robins, Jacky Winters,
Crested Shrike-tit, Large-billed Scrubwrens, Red-browed Tree-creepers and
some Diamond Firetails were made within the Valley. Distant views of
raptors including Wedge-tailed Eagle, Brown Goshawk and Nankeen Kestrel
were obtained. Many Honeyeaters, in particular, Yellow-faced and
White-naped Honeyeaters aswell as Noisy Friarbirds were on the move.

For those of us who stayed on till late afternoon, 2 pairs of Flame
Robins, 2 Rock Warblers and a Rose Robin greeted us on Shipleys Plateau
road.

At the end of the day the panoramic views of the Megalong Valley from Mt
Blackheath and the excellent sighting of a pair of Beautiful Firetails
feeding on Hakeas and Casuarinas, finished the day on a high note.

Thats all for now ..
