As our yardlist reached 70 yesterday with an overflying Fairy Martin I
thought I'd add to this thread.
We are in suburban Canberra, since moving in 3 years ago we have massacred
all the non-native trees and shrubs in the garden and planted natives,
though with the dry weather this year the things we have planted are growing
very slowly, even with watering. However most of the species on the list
were attracted to the vicinity by mature eucalypts over the back fence, and
across the road. I hope we don't have to move before we get the benefits of
what we have planted!
Another recent notable record was a Hobby (seen every few weeks), which on
this occasion came over the roof and swooped low over the front yard and
across the road, coming within two feet of me whilst doing so. I was
surprised but I bet the Hobby took it in its stride.
Anyway the point of this posting is to ask a question, we have six species
of parrot we see regularly in the yard (Galah, Gang-gang, King, Crimson
Rosella, Eastern Rosella and Sulphur-crested Cockie) (once or twoice we have
had Red-rumped Parrots flyign over). Is there anywhere else in the world
(outside Australia/PNG) where it is possible to see this many parrot species
in a suburban backyard?
