Last weekend I took Mike Houle of Wisconsin USA to Newcastle
(32° 55´S 151° 45´ E) 160 km (100 miles) north from Sydney for some
birding. 159 avian species and a terrific list for those interested in what
can be seen between Sydney and Newcastle. Top 10 difficult to pick from
such an extensive list but possibly (based on good looks, charm and/or
rarity) might include:

Peregrine Falcon, Spotless Crake, Wood Sandpiper, Comb-crested Jacana,
Gull-billed Tern, White-winged Black Tern, Wompoo Fruit-dove, Topknot
Pigeon (flock of 75), Gang-gang Cockatoo, Azure kingfisher, Rainbow
Bee-eater, Speckled Warbler, Blue-faced Honeyeater, Scarlet Honeyeater,
Spotted Quail-thrush, Green Catbird and Double-barred Finch (sorry, forgot
to stop at 10).
