At about 6:30 this morning I was interested to see a pair of Wood Ducks _Chenonetta jubata_ perched on top of a brick chimney of a house in the suburb of Bulimba (Brisbane). I had not previously regarded Wood Ducks as frequenting suburbs other than in parks. They showed some apprehension at my direct stare when I crossed the street for a better look, but did not fly. The female kept up a chattering sound, soft but clearly audible from the footpath. Syd H Syd Curtis |
