yellow wagtail analogy

I was explaining about Yellow Wagtails to a non-birding friend yesterday
(viz that they occur very rarely, but sometimes appear in larger numbers and
penetrate down to the south-east), and he said 'They sound like neutrinos'.

But then, I don't think I really feel as if thousands of Yellow Wagtails are
passing through me, undetected, every second, so perhaps it's not a very
good analogy.
