Folks: Just received advice that in spite of a gallant effort by many, the decision to go ahead with the destruction of Fujimae Tidal Flat was taken yesterday. One is always left feeling a little gutted at a moment like this. An initial urge is to throttle all manner of things Japanese but let us not foget that it was our Japanese bretheren that pearheaded the fight to save the mudflat. Certainly here in Australia we will have to keep a close watch on shorebird numbers to ascertain what, if any, impact this will have have birds staging through from Fujimae.
