Last week John Leonard wrote >The breeding (of the Fairy Terns) represents a definate extension of range >over that recorded in HANZAB and according to that work breeding has never >been confirmed to NSW before.< Fairy Terns were first recored breeding at Wallagoot Lake in Mid-November 1994 when two pairs nested with Little Terns, Pied Oystercatchers, Crested Terns and Caspian Terns rearing 3 chicks, they have occurred there subsequently. This information was published in B.Jones 1995 Aust. Birds 29, 10-13, in the NSW Annual Bird Reports (published by the NSWFOC in their Journal "Australian Birds")and in the Eurobodalla Natural History Society Annual Reports. There are birdwatchers who live in NSW & publish information, subscriptions for these group's publications are available! Alan Morris |
