Spoke to Bob Doneley, an excellent avian vet who hails from Toowoomba and I
understand he's involved with the case. Bob tells me its the second Petrel
he's treated in Toowoomba in as many years, last one a Black-winged Petrel.
We found a semi-comotose Kerguelen Petrel in our carpark some years ago and
managed to revive it (just) but it died shortly after we transferred it to
the zoo. Found it interesting that the bird picked our suburban Melbourne
carpark in which to collapse - must have read the sign, it didn't look like
a member of the public had left it. Felt bad that we couldn't help it after
all that effort! It seems the sickies can get well and truely disorientated
or blown a long way off course.
