SYDNEY, NSW PELAGIC TRIP REPORT 12th January 1998

Trip Summary:
A fairly quiet January trip, but some good birds just the same. Gould's
Petrel being the highlight although views were not up to the standard of
last
month. Of particular interest were the two sightings of Providence Petrel
(both juvenile birds) which are very rare at this time of year from Sydney
or
Wollongong. Also worthy of note was the large number of Flesh-footed
Shearwater particularly once we were over the shelf at our chumming location
34.07'S - 151.43'E.

Conditions:
Mostly overcast.
Water temperature 23.7C once beyond the shelf.
Departed at 7.15 am and returned at 2.30 pm.
Predominantly Northeast winds 15-20 Knots
Reached 29.7 Nautical Miles East of Sydney.

Those on Board:
Clive Beyers, Bjorn ?, Redge Clark, Rod Gardner, Dion Hobcroft, Glen Holmes,
