I observed an Australian raven in the grounds of Melbourne Zoo do something
similar. The raven picked up a 300ml milk carton out of the rubbish bin and
dropped it on the ground. The bird punched a hole in the carton with its bill.
It tipped the carton over allowing the remaining milk to dribble out on to the
ground. The raven drank as much as it could off the ground. Pretty clever.

Subject: Great Spot on Coke!!!!
Hi everyone,
Whilst at Las Lajas, Tenerife, Canary Islands, yesterday I observed an
interesting piece of behaviour by a Great Spotted Woodpecker. The bird flew
down to a coke can that had obviously been thrown away the previous day.
The bird proceeded to
rotate the can and was then seen to drink from the opening. I presumed that
the bird was drinking water that had condensed inside the can but on closer
inspection, after the bird had finished, it was clear that the few drops of
liquid remaining in the can were infact Coca-Cola!!!!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone else experienced anything comparable to this?
By the way we also saw lots of Blue Chaffinches and Canary Island Goldcrest
in the same area.
Tony.
