Dear All

Last weekend I dedicated my birding in searching for the Oriental Cuckoo
that was present last Monday at Mitchell Park at Cattai , north west of
Sydney. I was with other birder's there on both Saturday and Sunday
morning. Despite no luck, good bird's were heard and seen on the 2 day's.

Both the resident Powerful Owl's and Black Bittern were calling early on
Saturday (the later giving its single "Whooo" call). Six species of the
regular cuckoo species were present though which were Fan-tailed, Brush,
Golden-bronze, Pallid, Koel and Channel-billed Cuckoo's. Several Golden
-bronze cuckoo's were calling together with their wing's outstretched
giving some sort of display. Cicadabird's, Little Lorikeet's, Little
Cuckoo Shrike, Peregrine Falcon and a pair of Wedge-tailed Eagle's were
also seen.

At Pitt Town Lagoon several wader's were seen - Marsh, Sharp-tailed, and
Curlew Sandpiper's and Lesser Golden Plover. Also here, were Glossy Ibis
aswell as Spotted and Baillon's Crake's.

All for now.

Edwin

P.S. Was anybody else lucky to see this Cuckoo. How about the Little
Curlew at Pitt Town or the possible pair of American Golden Plover's
there.
