While working at Roseville, a northern Sydney suburb, on Monday, two
Channel-billed Cuckoos flew over my head and landed in a Euc. Piperita
(Sydney Peppermint) beside me. Just one of 32 species in this area. For
one week a male Collared Sparrowhawk flew over, calling, usually after 2pm.
A male Leaden Flycatcher calls incessantly as does the Olive-backed Oriole.
There are so many birds to watch, work is hard to fit in.
Last weekend we went wader watching around Botany Bay, just south of
Sydney. Highlights were two Great Knots at Penryn Road and 21 Grey-tailed
Tattlers at Bonna Point. Also at one stage a Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo
flew across the bay and across Sydney airport. You can just see it can't
you. Birder from overseas with bins locked in the suitcase, looking out to
fill in time and this large black bird with a very long tail flies past.
