A yellow wagtail in non-breeding plummage was spotted from the Tower Observation Hide at Townsville Town Common on Tuesday 25 November; around noon. This is one of only a few reported sightings of a yellow wagtail in Townsville. The bird was identified by Peter and Rhonda Barrand from Heywood, Victoria. Jo Wieneke, Marleen Acton, Jock and Rosemary Payet, Steve Guerrato and myself managed to get good looks at the bird, which hung around the Tower Hide until about 5pm. Other Townsville birdos are heading out there today to see if it still around. Meanwhile, a BUFF BREASTED PARADISE KINGFISHER was sighted in Mt Spec NP on the road to Paluma; 80 km north of Townsville this morning. Alex Appleman Townsville |
