I am familiar with the juvenile Crimson Rosella, with its green form slowly moving through the patchy version until it becomes the adult, smooth crimson. Does the Yellow version have similar transformation? I ask because near Wagga I saw a flock of mixed rosellas --Eastern and Yellow, which included a couple of blue cheeked rosellas with a peculiar, mottled 'blood orange' plumage all across the breast. It looked like the field guide illustration of the Adelaide rosella (never seen one), but surely it could not be that -- it was about 1000 km out of range!! I assumed juvenile Yellows. Is that right?
