This is probably a puzzling question to anyone who hasn't spent time at
various latitudes! The pattern of the surface of the moon does appear very
different below (and even at) the equator than it does up in our northern
latitudes. (I can't say I've thought through the geometry and figured out
why.) So our "man in the moon" is not apparent.
