We have had a couple of private pelagics off here in the last few
days - one for VENT and one for Field Guides Inc.

The VENT trip produced the usual selection of Sydney birds for this time of
year, plus a Gould's Petrel.

While the FIELD GUIDES trip on Sunday produced a number of real gems.

The highlight being the 2nd East coast record for Bulwer's Petrel. A bird
first seen at 18 miles off Sydney as it circled around three quarters of the
boat before disappearing. Presumably the same bird was seen in this area on
our return from the shelf.

One internediate phase Kermadec Petrel gave spectacular close views, while a
probable Black-bellied Storm Petrel gave tantalisingly poor views! (It's
case wasn't helped by the Bulweria arriving on the scene!).

In addition about 20 or so Humpbacks, including a breaching one and then on
the shelf about 10 -15 Sperm Whales and a Blue Shark were cosnidered special
by most participants.

No jaegers were seen on either trip and only one Flesh-footed Shearwater on
the first trip. A Southern (Brown) Skua on the Field Guides Trip was also seen.

Further information available but not till next week as I am away till Sunday.

Please also send condolences to Tony Palliser who transpired to dip on
Bulwer's Petrel (in NSW and Victoria (?) on the same day) as well as missing
ANOTHER Southern Fulmar off Portland, Vic. yesterday. yeeehaaa - way to go
Tony...:-)

Regards

Alan
