An overseas trip and other commitments have kept me away from Birding-Aus since March. The recent migration however, makes me put finger to keyboard. Sightings from Bugaldie, NSW, on north edge of the Warrumnungles, south tip of the Pilliga (149.1E, 31.0S) Brown Songlark: First noted on Aug 29 and Sep 3. Prominent, but silent. First calls on morning of Sep 9. Fairy Martin: First seen about Aug 25. Rainbow Bee-eater: Small flock heard and seen this afternoon, Sep 9. The returns at the end of August corresponded with a warming (no frosts since) and an obvious increase in butterfly numbers and species, although the butterflies are still not common.
