Susan Myers said 'Jacky Winter - a declining species in Vic,about 6 seen in one spot' This has reminded me that I wanted to post a question about these birds. I have found four dead Jacky Winters on our property in two weeks, three on one day. Could see no obvious signs of the cause of death but my wife tells me she has observed a lot of fighting by JWs recently. Could these be last year's offspring being driven off and refusing to leave? or is it more likely to be death from starvation or disease? Does anyone know of any reason for such a sudden spate of mortality in this species? We have had a lot of frosty nights lately, could have something to do with it.
