A follow-up to our discussion of toads & kites. Jean-Marc Hero kindly
send me a reprint of [1], a short paper reporting predation of Cane Toads
by Black Kites. In an area near Townsville the author found toad remains
near several Black Kite nests. One nest had over 20 Toad remains around
it. The toads had internal organs removed via their ventral surface. The
authors also observed kites perhaps actively searching for toads on the
edge of dams.
This paper and HANZAB refer to [2], a 1969 paper by Lavery reporting
Toads and 4 native frog species (Limnodynastes ornatus, Litoria
caerulea, Litoria inermis, Cyclorana alboguttatus) found in Black
Kite stomachs near Townsville.
