Last weekend (June21-22), Louise and I were in Darwin for a couple of
days birding prior to a conference that I was attending. We took the
opportunity to drive the 300+ kms to Gunlom Falls in our 4th attempt to
see White-throated Grasswren. (It was another futile effort - we dipped
out again. If this goes on much longer I'll be too old to climb the
escarpment, particularly in that heat).
On the way to Gunlom, we stopped at the Pine Creek Shell station to fuel
up and have 'breakfast' (a fried egg sandwich). While we sat outside
eating, we watched a flock of about 70 Hooded Parrots on the grass and
in the trees of the adjacent park/playground. Since I have not seen Pine
Creek mentionned as a Hooded Parrot site in the literature, I thought
this worth recording for birders visiting Darwin since it is only a
two-hour drive. We also recorded two Banded Honeyeaters at the same
location.
Cheers
