A single Barn Swallow has been reported at Mt. Martha on the Mornington
Peninsula, c. 60 km S of Melbourne, Vic. It appears to be genuine, having
been seen by Mike Carter at 1310 hours yesterday, 25 June 1997 (and
definitely wasn't a Grey-headed Albatross!). The details are as follows:
seen at the residence of Shirley Kerr, 80 Racecourse Rd., Mt.
Martha.(telephone 0359 755733, please ring if you intend to drop by). Melway
map 145. The house is the second on left if you take The Briars exit of the
Mornington Pen. Freeway. It is 1.3 km from the local sewage farm, speculated
to be a feeding area of the swallow. Shirley apparently has no objections
(yet!) to being visited by hoardes of twitchers. The bird comes in to perch
on a light fitting under the verandah, but did not roost there last night.
It has been seen intermittently in the last two months or so.

Peter Lansley.
