Thanks Paul for this info.
For those of you who are new or have forgotten, I have a few pages for the
Friends of Pt Lillias more or less attached to the birding-aus site.
You can get there from the Birding-Aus page:
http://www.deakin.edu.au/~russwood/
Or direct to the Pt Lillias Page:
http://www.deakin.edu.au/~russwood/lillias.html
I've just updated that page so that I'm not saying libellous things about
the State Government. All the OLD info - and I stress that it is OLD and
now redundant (but you can look for interest if you want to know some more
background) is at the same address, but put lillias2.html on the end of
the URL.
We're still pinching ourselves to see if this news is true, by the way.
A matter of months ago the Minister for Planning and Local Govt overruled
the Environment Effects Statement and said that the facility would go
ahead despite the findings. I have his original words in hardcopy
somewhere, but they go something like:
"We can't let this stand in the way of the facility".
Well, now he says that it CAN'T go ahead because of the EES.
Maybe he just made a small mistake before?
Anyway, we don't care WHY it is 'off' we're just glad it is.
It doesn't solve the Coode Isl problem, even with 'World's Best Practice'
Safety Standards. But at least they will now consider a site that has
less problems (we hope) than Pt Lillias.
Thanks to everyone who did anything at all to support our case to drop the
Point Lillias storage facility.
