On the front page of Saturday's Telegraph under the title "Urban Bushland
Seized", Simon Benson the Environment Reporter says he's learned that
almost all of Sydney's remaining bushland on the Cumberland Plain between
Parramatta and the Blue Mountains, is to be protected. He says developers
will now have to apply to the National Parks and Wildlife Service for
permission to develop the sites.
It doesn't clearly spell out how protected these bushland remnants will be.
These developers can afford the best lawyers around and are very used to
having their own way.
Only 6% of the forests remain. That is 6% after 200 years. And they want
more of it for Gloria Zomes.
6% is not a lot of forest for birds and for birdwatchers alike.
