If I can have my two cents worth, I believe that we have two dictinct species: Ninox boobook (Latham)1801, Southern Boobook in Australia and Ninox novaeseelandiae (Gmelin)1788, Morepork in NZ. We have a resident Southern Boobook in our suburb, and I love it when he perches in our trees and calls. John Penhallurick Associate Professor John M.
