I was expecting some great seabird records after the storm but nothing as
yet. Highlights in New South Wales over the last week are as follows:
BLACK BITTERN 1 Centennial Park, Sydney 20/4 - record just
received. It was on the edge of the large pond
with the cormorant nesting islands in the middle.
GREY GOSHAWK 1 Stannix Park, Windsor 4/5
COMB-CRESTED JACANA 1 Pitt Town Lagoon, Windsor 8/5 - the
missing bird from Summer returned?
HOODED PLOVER 3 Lake Conjola, South Coast 26/4
BLACK-WINGED STILT 173 Bicentennial Park, Homebush 4/5
SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER 4 Pitt Town Lagoon, Windsor 8/5 - very late
PACIFIC GULL 1 Long Reef, Sydney 30/4 and 2 Metromix Swamp,
Cronulla 25/4 - becoming commoner in Sydney
KELP GULL 9 Penrhyn Rd. Botany 11/5 - sheltering from the
gale force winds. A high count for Sydney
SCARLET ROBIN several Megalong Valley, Blue Mountains 4/5
ROSE ROBIN several Megalong Valley, Blue Mountains 4/5
BROWN HONEYEATER "many" feeding in flowering Melaleuca Bicentennial
Park, Homebush 4/5
And large numbers of migrating honeyeaters at Megalong Valley, Blue
Mountains 4/5
